John Isaac Pippin

Buried in the John I. Pippin Cemetery, just off Highway #56, about 1 mile from Putnam/Jackson County Line.
Pvt. in Co. E, 28th Regt. TN Volunteers, CSA
John applied for his pension, #9636 for the State of TN. He state he was in the battle of Batten Rouge on 5 Aug 1862 and was taken with chills, diarrhea & lung disease on 6 Aug 1862. He was sent home sick on furlough during Dec of 1862 and was never physically able to return to active serve. W. S. Robinson stated he was called to see John I. Pippin about Dec of 1862 and found a typical case of typhoid fever. After he recovered, he contracted tuberculosis from which he still suffered at the time of his application. He was denied.
Death report made by B. F. Fox in Jackson Co TN. J. I. Pippin died 1 Jan 1912 - said to be age 68 yrs, 8 mo, 11 days which would be a birth date of 30 Apr 1843. He was listed as married and a farmer. He was born and died in Jackson Co. Died of a "fatted tumor".

Birth
[I believe there is a typo in Pippin Pathways. John was 9 in the 1850 census. The 1880 census does indicate a birth year of 1843 as in the book. I would believe the earlier year is correct.]Endnotes
