Thornton is said to have married Margret "Peggy" Bohannon on 2 Jan 1816 in Caswell Co NC. This is listed in the NC Marriage Bonds online. Thornton must not have gone to Kentucky with his father.

1840 Census, Pittsylvania Co VA. Thornton Walters. 2m -5, 1m 5-10, 1m age 30-40 [Thornton - he was probably more like 45 and this mark made in the wrong place]. 2f 5-10, 3f 10-15, 2f 15-20, 1f 20-30, 1f 40-50.

A daughter is said to be Mary Frances, born 1834, who married William O. Gillespie, 2 Dec 1851, in Caswell Co NC. I do not find Thornton, or a widow Margaret/Peggy, nor a child Mary Walters, age about 16, in the 1850 census in either Pittsylvania Co or Caswell Co. I have not found a database with a family for Thornton so I cannot confirm her identity.

The 1860 and 1870 censuses in Caswell NC show that William O. Gillispie, b. 1824 VA, and Mary, b. 1834 VA, had the following children all born in Caswell: William L., b.1853, T. Pinckney, b. 1855, Mary J., born 1853, John W., b. 1858, Joseph b. 1860, Eliza b. 1862, Martha b. 1865, Robert b. 1864, and Jesse, age 4 months in 1870. Hugh Gillispie, age 82, b. VA, lived with the family in 1870 - probably William's father.

The daughter of William and Mary Gillespie, Mary Jane, married George W. Zimmerman, 5 Apr 1882, in Caswell Co NC. Her mother is said to have been Mary Walters.

Caswell Woman is Pneumonia Victim
Yanceyville, NC, Dec 24
Mr.s G. W. Zimmerman, age 69, died at her home near here at 2:30 o'clock this morning after an illness of little more than a week with pneumonia. She was stricken eight days ago. Mrs. Zimmerman is survived by her husband and eight children.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock from the home, the services to be conducted by Rev. C. W. Wood. Interment will be made in the cemetery at Providence church.
