Moved from Pittsylvania to: County, State and Year, or where he Roane County, Tennessee 1795 to 1803
Comments:
In 1764 Gabriel was in Caroline County, Virginia. By 1767 he and his family were living in Pittsylvania County where he had acquired two hundred acres of land on the Dan River.
His first wife, Mary Durrett, died on 10 Feb 1774. Sometime later in 1774 he married Nancy Payne.
In the 1787 Census he was tabulated with one white male 16-21, two Blacks over 16, two Blacks under 16, five horses, and 17 cattle.
Sometime between 1795 and 1803 this family along with others named Durrett and Rogers and Payne moved to Kingston, Roane County, Tennessee. He owned 400 acres of land where the Clinch and Tennessee Rivers join.
[The Descendants of the Richards Families of Jackson County, Indiana; Aute Richards; 1961; DAR Library.]
Upon his death in 1814 part of his family left Tennessee for Indiana and lived in or near Jackson County until the time of the Civil War. After that the descendants became widely scattered. [Gabriel seems to have lived beyond 1814 - see will below.]
It is believed that Nancy (Payne) Richards died in Tennessee on 23 Jul 1840.
I am trying to identify the parents of Nancy (Payne) Richards and any assistance would be appreciated.

The above footnotes were obtained by Mrs. Thornton from the following sources:
Abstract wills and noted estates mentioned in Roane County through 1840.
Typed copy of marriage bonds through 1838, plus some of later dates, using the marriage bonds only to the extent that the daughter's married name was given in the will. If used, a check was made for a corresponding marriage and when found, the year only and name of groom as given in bonds would be included.
County Court minutes used for data on formation of county and jury lists.
Various lists which have appeared in print, primarily the Rhea County tax list of 1808, and a list compiled by Capt. McELWEE 1910 giving the names of men "known to him" as Revolutionary Soldiers. Many of these men never drew pensions and each has been indicated as a "non-pensioner."
Pension applications and three family genealogists.
Abstracts made from records in Roane, Rhea and Bledsoe Counties, primarily deeds.
[An 1802 Tax list had none of the above persons.]
