Individual Details

This is a tentative family for Andrew White. No online databases show him in this family and yet here is a White family, some of whom lived in St. Francois Co MO, in the neighborhood of both wives of Andrew. Not all the children are found in the same databases. An article by a grandson stated they had 14 children. There are apparently censuses before 1830 that gave indication of several daughters whose names are unknown. I suspect Terrell and Benjamin are not part of this White family, but since they are seen as such I will insert their information here:

[Terrill White is not placed in this family in all databases, but he appears in some and it seems possible for him to be part of the family given that he was born in North Carolina. It is also quite likely though that he doesn't belong as the 1820 census of Thomas White in Wayne Co TN has only one older boy, age 10-16, who is most likely William Thomas, b. 1804. Terrill White could be some other relation to Thomas, perhaps a younger brother or nephew.]

I have read that In a book "The Ancestors & Descendants of Carolus [Charles] White & Margareta Van Culen by David E. White" perhaps offers a clue to Terrill. He states that Terrill C. White was a son of Charles White Jr, b. 1770 in North Carolina and whose wife was Leah Rubottum - this family moved to Tennessee ca 1814. Charles Jr was a son of Carolus & Margareta White. The family was from Delaware but most members had left before the birth of Thomas White who stated he was born in Delaware. The given name Thomas is not found in the family of Carolus & Margareta.

Benjamin George White married (1) Frances ????. He married 14 Jul 1868 to Martha Ann Wood Covey in Hardin Co TN.

B. G. White, age 25, b. GA [If this is correct he does not belong in the family of Thomas & Martha White - he is too young, b. 1835, and born in the wrong place - he seems to be the son of the older Nancy White, see next.], Frances, age 26, b. AL. Nancy J. age 6 & George W. age 3.
He lived next door to Nancy White, age 58, also b. GA. She had grown children, Elizabeth E. age 28, b. GA, and Julian, age 20, b. AL. And a possible grandchild, William A. age 10, also born in AL.


Andrew White and his first wife Elizabeth Sebastian used both Thomas and Martha in naming their children, as well as William and Charles - these are not given names used commonly in the Sebastian family. Andrew stated in 1880 that his father was born in Delaware. I suspect if he is not a son of Thomas, he would certainly be related in some way.

7 Jan 1819, Hickman Co TN - Thomas White purchased additional land on the Pine River. Witnesses were James Terrill and William Powell.

Children include 3m -10 - [Alfred, Thomas & James - Andrew possibly not counted since born April?] 1m 10-16 - William. 2f -10 [Martha and ???] 2f 10-16 [names unknown]
The 1820 census began on 7 Aug 1820, so Andrew, if a part of this family and born in April of 1820, should have been counted. This would make a total of 4 boys under 10 in the household of Thomas White. There are several other Thomas Whites in Tennessee at this time.

May, 1821 30 acres surveyed for Thomas White on Flat Gap and Indian Creek, Hardin Co TN.

Mar, 1825 Thomas and Martha White were founding members of the Baptist Church of Christ/Union Baptist church on Hardin's Creek, Wayne Co. In Feb of 1842, they asked for a dismissal.
Charles White joined this church by letter, Aug 1834.
William White joined by letter, Oct 1834.

This family does not fit the ages of the children as given particularly well. I suspect some marking of birth years that are incorrect.

Some of the sons appear to also be in Hardin Co. On the same page were:
William White, age 30-40 [he was 36]. 2m -5, 2m 5-10, 1f 20-30 [Mary E.]
James White, age 20-30 [abt age 29], 2m -5, 1m 5-10, 2f 5-10, 1f 10-15, 1f 20-30 [Rutha]
On p.248a of the same census is:
Thomas B. White, age 20-30 [abt 24], 2m -5, 1f 5-10, 1f 20-30 [Malissa]
Not found: Alfred who would be about 25 and Andrew, age 20.

[There is a Cornelius D. White in the 1840 Hickman Co TN census. Cornelius said to have been born about 1799, a son of Jesse White, Jesse was another son of Carolus & Margareta White. Cornelius would be a 1st cousin of Terrill White. Cornelius was in Williamson Co TN by 1804 and then in Hickman Co - he married Mary Elizabeth Van Culen.]
