Green Berry Mabry died 7 Mar 1948, Pine Creek, Carroll Co, VA. His usual residence was Hillsville in Carroll Co. He died of heard disease and general senility. He was a veteran of the civil War and was widowed. Farmer by occupation. Born 14 Sep 1845 in Carroll Co. he was 102 years old at his death. Parents listed as Samuel Mabry and Tibatha Branscome, birthplaces unknonw. The informant was W. L. Mabry of Richlands, VA. Greenberry was buried in the family cemetery on Mar 9th. The Funeral Director was Fred L. Mabry & Son.

Green Berry Mabry enlisted in Confederate States Army on 16 October 1863 at Missionary Ridge, Tennessee. He was mustered in Company G, 54th Virginia Infantry and served till the end of the war. He was the last surviving member of his regiment and one of the last 10 CSA veterans in Virginia (age 102 years).
He attended the Gettysburg reunion in 1938.
Green Berry was a member and deacon of the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Carroll County, Virginia for 69 years. By trade he was a farmer, blacksmith and wagon maker. He is the brother of Samuel and Absalom Mabry. He was married twice. First to Louisa and second to Mary Ann Goad.
It seems Green Berry left the army when surrender was pending in North Carolina and walked the short distance home. He reportedly saw Jefferson Davis riding south on a mule at that time after the last Confederate cabinet meeting at Danville, Virginia. His brother Samuel died in Georgia and was also served in the 54th Virginia Infantry.
