Database states that William Riley Haggard was born in SouthWest Territory of North Carolina, now Washington County, TN. The 1753 date seems too early for Tennessee - this area was settled mostly after the Revolution when bounty land was given in that location. I believe it's much more likely he was born in Virginia or North Carolina.

There is an obvious problem with the birthdates of the children in the WorldConnect file. The earliest given is 1773; George William is the last in 1813 - this is 40 years apart. No woman has childbearing years of that extent. Either there were two wives, or many of the dates are in error.

Clinton R. Haggard, researcher of the Haggard family has this: William Riley Haggard, son of Zechariah and Martha (Rice) Haggard, was born 1753, Southwest Territory of North Carolina, now Jonesboro, Washington, TN, died 1822, Bedford County, TN, married ca. 1790, now Kingston, Roane, TN, Mary Ellen Gentry, born ca. 1770. They had at least twelve children.
He gives approximate birth years from 1791 to 1813 which is considerably more feasible, but names no children except George William.

Note: This implies that William's wife was already deceased - also that he might well have been married twice as his children appear to cover a wide span of ages.

The 1850 Carroll Co TN Census suggests two more sons or grandsons for William Riley & Mary Ellen Haggard. G. W. Haggard was there, age 37, with wife Ziltha as expected. He was born in Tennessee. Two pages away in this census was James L. Haggard, age 31 & born TN with wife Emily. A few pages after that was a John A. Hagard, age 23 and born in TN with wife Minerva.
