In 1850 Elizabeth Sims is listed next to William & Sarah Jones with a 4-year-old daughter Sarah. By 1860 she is listed with 2nd husband, John Shrum - he obviously was a widower with several children when they married and Sarah J. Sims lives with them. Elizabeth is buried Liberty Cemetery.

1860 Dade Co MO Census, Polk Twp, p.70, Dwelling 472. John Shrum age 38, b. MO. He has property worth $11,000 and $575 of personal estate. Elizabeth age 34, b. KY. Children all born in MO. Some of them are surely John Shrum's by an earlier marriage, certainly those born before 1850. Ephriam who was age 9 in 1860, has a death certificate that states his parents as John Shrum and Caroline Thomason. There is no major gap in the birth years of the children and without a marriage record it is impossible to tell for sure which of the children are Elizabeth's. Ann age 17, Jacob 16, Caroline 12, Ephraim, 9, Elkanah, 6, Rosa A. 5, Catherine 3, Joseph 1. Sarah J. Sims [stepdaughter, daughter of Elizabeth] is 15.

[It would seem that Elizabeth is a recent widow, unless this is someone else's baby she's keeping. Cemetery records say that John Shrum died 1865.]

7 Oct 1875: Ephraim Shrum married Virginia Jones, daughter of Wm J. Jones.

1880 Dade Co MO, Polk Twp, p.201c. Lizabeth Shrum is 54 and widowed. Joseph age 18 lives with her. [There was a Joseph already a year old in 1860 - perhaps they got his age wrong.]
