Larkin Gatewood

Larkin said to be the son of Henry Gatewood, and the grandson of John Gatewood, immigrant.
In 1769 in Amherst Co VA, Larkin was appointed the guardian of Mary Penn, orphan of Joseph Penn, deceased. Mary was likely his wife's younger sister. There is a return of the accounting of the guardianship in 1784.
He joined the Revolutionary Army 13 Jan 1781 and was discharged Mar 1782. He served in Wm Tucker's Company from Amherst.
He moved to Georgia about 1790 with other Gatewoods, the Upshaws, the Higginbothams, and other families from Amherst. He received 200 acres and another 350 acres in Wilkes Co in 1797.
Will named daughters: Amy Upshaw, Mary Higginbotham, & Dolly Higginbotham. Their husbands John Upshaw from Louisa Co VA, Benjamin & Francis Higginbotham. Dau-in-law, Betsy Gatewood to receive a cow and calf. Executors: The three sons-in-law. Wit: R. Hunt, William Phelps, Anderson England. Dated 1 Oct 1802; Probate 25 Apr 1805.
