HISTORICAL & GENEALOGY OF THE WOODSONS AND THEIR CONNECTIONS by Henry Morton Woodson: States that Obadiah held the rank of captain and commanded a company of militia as shown by a letter to him from Gov. Dinwiddie in the Dinwiddie Papers in the VA Historical Colection. Letter is dated 20 Nov 1755.

There is a deed Mar 1741 in Goochland Co VA when Obadiah and wife Constant sold land.
He patented large tracts of land in Lunenburg & Bedford Counties. He was captain of volunteers against the Shawnee in 1755 and a vestryman of St. Patrick's Parish, Prince Edward Co.
