John Price V

(Abt 1720 - Bef Mar 1772)

There is considerable circumstantial proof that this John Price is a son of John and Hannah Williamson Price. He had numerous associations with proved sons of John - Daniel and William.. Most of the names chosen for his children are given names common to this Price family. His wife was named as Sarah in his will.

This John Price consistently signed his named with an "X" as noted in deeds when his wife Sarah relinquished dower as well as in his will.

There is another marriage seen in trees online for this John that I believe to be a different person - to Elizabeth Brown, 7 Jul 1744 in Albemarle Co VA. Said to have had a daughter Lucinda. Some researches have apparently tried to reconcile this discrepancy by calling John Price's wife "Sarah Brown". which makes no sense.

Was this John Price, the first of the family to go south to Lunenburg County? did he possibly have a different first wife?

In 1756, Daniel Price, son of John Price & Hannah Williamson, bought land in Lunenburg Co as proved by a land purchase from Phillip Poindexter on 3 Jan 1756. In 1759, Daniel Price bought land in Lunenburg Co from Richard Brook. A John Price is listed as adjoining this property - he is likely this unproved brother of Daniel.

Many members of the Price family were still in Goochland at the time of the following deed. Perhaps it belongs to a different John Price, but no other appears to be available. It is witned by Wlliam Price who was still in Goochland, and whose land was adjacent that of Christopher John Thomas. Samuel Shepherd was married to Elizabeth Price, daughter of John Price IV. Also a deed in Lunenburg, 1767, will state that John Price V had property adjacent that of Jonathan Patteson, likely kin of Alexander. John Price IV also had a deed witnessed by a Thomas Alley.
