The only mention of Ruth is in the minutes of Broad Run Bapt Church in Fauquier Co, as they were members in Dec 1762. Joshua and Ruth were dismissed to move to Halifax. No records of them are found in Halifax. There is a Joshua Dodson on the tax list for Surry Co NC in 1782; he had 300 acres on Reed Creek [this location is now in Stokes Co] Joshua Dodson Senr was on a state census in the late 1780's, in Surry Co but he does not appear on the 1790 Census. Some of his children moved to South Carolina. Joshua Dodson and Joseph Williams, were shown as ministers of the Shoals Baptist Church, Oconee River, Greene Co GA in 1789. Most researchers agree that he died in 1793, but there's no proof.
Writings of George W. Dodson, date unknown, suggest that his great-grandfather was this Joshua Dodson, a Baptist preacher, and he had visited Georgia when George's father was a young boy. George's father, Samuel, was born in 1788, so the visit probably wasn't much earlier than 1795.
