William N. P. Thomas

In 1860 William P. and his brother Allen M. were living separately from their parents. They lived next door to their sister Mary Ann and her husband Henry Dillard.

Died from injuries suffered in the Civil War - at the 2nd Battle of Drewry's Bluff, Chesterfield, VA, fought on 12-16 May 1864. Brought home arriving 20th of June. Buried two days later. He was said to be 27 years, 11 months & 20 days old when he was killed.

A William P. Thomas is recorded as being recruited in the Danville area, Company E, 38th Virginia Regt.

The Battle of Proctor's Creek, also known as Drewry's Bluff or Fort Darling, was fought May 12–16, 1864, in Chesterfield County, Virginia, during the Bermuda Hundred Campaign of the American Civil War. Proctor's Creek was named for Charles Proctor, who lived and farmed on the land surrounding most of the creek. There were about 6,600 total casualties. This battle stopped Butler's offensive against Richmond.
