Capt Thomas Graves
(1 Apr 1584 - Dec 1635)
Date of birth is actually the baptism date.
Thomas Graves with the second supply of settlers at James Towne in Oct of 1608 on the ship "Mary and Margaret" under Capt. Nelson. He was a member of the 1st Legislative Assembly in America sitting for Smyth's Hundred, VA 30 Jul 1619. He was a Burgess to the Assembly representing Accomas 1629-1630 and 1632. He made frequent trips back to England. It is likely several of the children were born in England.
According to COLONIAL GRANVILLE, this Thomas Graves, came to Accomac Co VA which became Northampton. Possibly before 1630. He had at least three children: Richard, Ralph & Ann. Ann Graves married Rev. William Cotten of Accomac Co.
[These two accounts are not completely inconsistent with each other. Other records do indicate that Capt Graves came in 1608 as a member of The Virginia Company.]
Thomas's wife and two sons, John and Thomas are thought to have arrived in 1616.
