Individual Details
Judge George Howard
(22 Sep 1829 - 24 Feb 1905)
The information from the Stamps database that Alex Howard and Susan Slade, daughter of Thomas Slade, Jr.were parents of George Howard seems to be completely erroneous.
Howard family research suggests that Judge George Howard's parents were George (1798-1863) and Alice Thurston Clark (1807-1871). The Howard family was present in early Anne Arundel Co MD and some records place the Slade family there as well. Quite possibly there is some relation between George and Alex Howard.
George Howard was granted license to practice law in 1860; in 1854 he helped form the county of Wilson, NC. In 1859 he was elected to the Supreme Court of NC, an office he held for life. Some of his accomplishments include being Director of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, Director of University of North Carolina, President of Pamlico Banking and Insurance Co.
