Lived in Mecklenburg Co VA. There is a will in 1794 (perhaps in Mecklenburg?) when he is of District 96, SC and refers to his Uncle, Capt. John Williams of the same place. Others believe this will, probated 14 Oct 1794 in Edgefield Co was his.

Daughter Mary Williams. Daughter Rebecca Williams. Mentions "my three sons" (Joseph, James, Duke - named earlier) and "my six children" - three sons, three daughters. Executors: William Caldwell, Esqr (son in law) and son, Joseph Williams. Wit: John Hamilton, George Burnes, William Bullock.
He had moved to District 96, SC, on Mudlick Creek in 1771 or 1772.
John WILLIAMS, 1737-1794 was a member of the provincial Congress that met in Charleston on January 11, 1775. He served in the Revolutionary War. During the Revolution, his family lived at Laurens District, South Carolina, and were members of the Little River Presbyterian Church.

John married (1) to Mary Atwood and (2) to Anna Maria Gooch or Gouge, widow of Joseph Minter who had died circa 1784.
John had a son, Duke Williams, born ca 1765 probably in Granville Co, NC, who died 1796 in Edgefield. He married Martha "Patsy" Campbell, daughter of Capt. Agnus Campbell & Martha Logan. Duke kept a tavern in Laurens Co but moved after 1789 to Edgefield District.
