Individual Details

Riley Foster

(15 Jan 1821 - Mar 1853)

Riley's dates of birth and death are printed in HISTORY IN HEADSTONES with a death year of 1953. One is obviously wrong, probably the date of death, since he didn't live to age 132. He was, in fact, deceased by the 1860 Census.

It is said that Josiah joined the U.S.Army during the Mexican War [1846-1848]. Sons George and Riley also served - George was a 1st Lt.

In 1850, Riley was age 29, b. in MO. Luanna was age 23, b. KY and Josiah was a 6-month-old infant.

History of Crawford County, Arkansas, by Clara Eno has in Chapter 5 a list of brief deed abstracts. These were apparently compiled prior to the Crawford Co courthouse fire. It's regrettable that she did offer enough information, but her purpose seemed to be an attempt to identify wives.
Susanna [Ms. Eno misread this - she was Louanna] widow of Riley Foster; children Josiah, John and Riley.
George S. Foster power of Attorney to Joel H. Foster [no date]
