Physician Beloved by All, Taken by Death Monday Morning After a Brief Illness
New of the death of Dr. Thomas F. Wood, Sallisaw Physician, who passed away Monday morning, Dec 21 at 9:55 am at Sparks Memorial Hospital in Fort Smith, cast a gloom over the entire community. Loved ones and friends, however, were partially prepared for the shock, since the doctor had been critically ill for ten days previous to his death, and his recovery was from the first considered very doubtful.
The body was returned to Sallisaw Tuesday by the Wheeler-Stevenson mortuary, and remained at the home until one o'clock Wednesday afternoon when friends viewed the remain lying in state until 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Christian church.
The funeral was held from the Christian Church at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, the sermon being delivered by the pastor, Rev. Ertel R. Hall. Pall bearers from the home to the church were: Dr. S. B. Jones, Dr. J. A. Morrow, J. C. Woll, Dan Matthews, W. P. Akin, and C. E. Wiggins. Pall Bearers from the church to the cemetery were six members of the American Legion also members of the Masonic Lodge, whose names this paper was unable to learn.

Wood of Bartlesville, and Fred D. Wood, of Sallisaw.
He was actively engaged in the practice of medicine for more than forty years, moving to Sallisaw in 1907 and making this his home from that time until his death.
During the late world war, when the call came for men, Dr. Wood was past the age limit. He volunteered his services, however, and entered the army as a captain. Long before the war was over, he won his way to the rank of major.
