Widow Phebe appl'd for bounty land, 1855; Polly & Lansing Ch'n, character witnesses. Was Polly his wife or sister? Rev. Pension #S9314, NY. Enlisted ae. 16, Capt. Abner Hawley, Col. David Platt. During the war, he was residing at Spencertown, NY, with his parents. Baptized at First Church, Colchester, CT, April 25, 1761. 1790 Census, Hillsdale, Columbia Co., NY, (1-0-0). Administrator of his brother Calvin's estate, in Dec. 1792. Buried in Row 9, Plat 29, McCracken Cemetery, Liberty Twp., Logan Co., OH. IGI lists birth & death data.
Chamberlain Key, Vol. XI, No. 3, pp. 63-65, contains an article, "Declaration for Pension and Affidavit of Judah ChamberlIn", transcribed by George Richard Chamberlin. This is an official record summarizing a court hearing to determine his eligibility and amount of pension, dated 1 May 1837, State of Ohio, Clark County, signed by him the next day. It includes his declaration. It states his birth date and place, that he was living at Albany Co., NY when called into service, until about 1790, then removed to Livingston or Livingston Manor, Columbia Co., for about 4 years, thence to Chenango Co., near Oxford, until 1806, then Hamilton Co., OH for about 3 years, thence Harmony Twp., Clark Co., OH, until April 1834, then Logan Co., OH. The court record provides a detailed account of his military service in the Mohawk expedition, etc.
As a Private, he served under Capt. Hawley, Lt. Spencer & Col. Pratt as a volunteer, then enlisted under Capt. Jonah Graves, then acted as a substitute under Capt. Salisbury, commanded by Gen. Van Rensselaer.
Chamberlain Key, Vol. XII, No. 1, pp. 1, 6-8, contains article by George Richard Chamberlin, entitled, "Life and Times of Judah Chamberlin, listing his children, and biographical sketch, with sources, evidently condensed from 63 pages, similar title, pub. by the author, 2005, Ocala, FL. It contains a somewhat different account of the various places where Judah lived after 1790, than what appeared in the pension application (above). Birthdates & places also differ.
