Individual Details
Diadema Warner-Howard
(Abt 1772 - 14 Aug 1795)
She died "aged 23", per Union cemetery record, Amenia, Dutchess Co., NY. Ch'n Chain, Br. 4, cont., has her name as Warner-Howard. DCC lists her name as Diadema (Warner) Howard, and says she was married at Chatauqua Lake, Ontario Co., NY. DCC's FGR provides a detailed account of her death from Typhoid Fever near Ameniaville, Dutchess Co., NY, where she was buried.
George Richard Chamberlin's Chamberlain Key article states that the National Encyclopedia of American Biography says that Judah's first wife was a widow, yet Diademia was only 17-18 years of age when they were married. Family lore has it that she was "fiercely proud of her Indian blood.!" There were both Warner and Howard families in Dutchess Co., NY in 1790, with whom she might have been associated, but her name does not appear in the Warner genealogy. Both her gravestone, and that of her husband who died years later, bear this inscription: In memory of Mrs. Diadamia wife to Mr. Judah Chamberlin She died Aug. 14, 1795, aged 23. "Tho here my love alone you be, no more for me to see: yet a few days and I must die: and come and sleep with thee."
