This was posted at Find-A-Grave.com: This was my mother. The only memories I have of her are getting off the school bus when I was 6 and seeing a police car in my driveway. My grandparents were there and I was told that my mother was gone. I remember searching the house for her before crying on my grandmothers lap. She was murdered by a jealous ex-boyfriend as she was on a trip to Big Bear. I was told that he sneaked into her room and shot her while she slept and she never woke up. I heard he had gotten out of prison around 1992 when I was in the Navy. I remember going with my grandfather to pick up her car and drive it home. It was a Ford Galaxy. The car was given to my aunt who needed a vehicle. I received her portable cassette player and her favorite tape, Charley Pride's Greatest Hits. I remember going to the funeral. My grandmother asked me what song I wanted played at the funeral. I chose "Peace in the Valley" sung by Red Sovine. It was a closed-casket ceremony because she was shot in the head. I wanted them to prove to me she was in there, so they opened up the casket for me. I remember thinking that she just looked like she was asleep. They had used wax to repair her injuries so it wasn't gruesome. I visited the grave with my grandparents a few times as a child. We lived in Yermo, CA and we would go visit the grave when visiting relatives in Rialto. But in 1975 my grandfather retired from Union Pacific Railroad and we moved to Montana. I have never been to the grave since. A big thanks to this web site and the person who responded to my photo request. I may never have seen the grave again if not for this.
