John Joseph Donnelly

Keokuk Daily Gate City, Keokuk, Iowa, Wednesday, January 30, 1957, Page 23, Col. 9: Service Saturday for J. J. Donnelly Who Died Tuesday. Funeral service for J. J. (Hap) Donnelly Sr., 77, who died Tuesday morning in St. Joseph hospital will be held Saturday, at 1:30 p.m. at the Schmidt Memorial Home with the Rev. Ellsworth L. Woods officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery at Hamilton. A Knights of Pythias memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Schmidt Memorial Home.
Born September 26, 1879 in New York City, he came to Keokuk from Cook, Nebraska, 40 years ago and had lived here since. On April 30, 1917, he was married to Mary Caroline Kirkpatrick in Chicago. he was employed for 13 years at Swift and company and later worked for Thomas Truck and Caster company and the Frisina theaters. He retired about a year ago.
He was an active member of the First Christian church, the Men's Bible class, Moring Star Lodge No. 5, Knights of Pythias and a charter member of Chieftain Chapter No. 10, American War Dads. He received a citation from the United States Government for his War Dads work with returning veterans.
Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. J. C. (Dorothy) White, a missionary stationed in Kodaikanal, South India; Mrs. J. W. (Ruth) Davison of Keokuk, and Miss Betty J. Donnelly of Danville, Ia.; three sons, John J. (Joe) Donnelly, Jr., of Chicago, Robert M. Donnelly of Waynetown, Ind., and Journalist Third Class David L. Donnelly, who is stationed with the U. S. Navy in Hawaii; six grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
