Dorothy Ruth Heston was born 4 April 1917 in Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa. She married 3 October 1937 in Keokuk, Iowa to Robert Earnest Dougherty, son of Roy and Ruth Paulina (Jamison) Dougherty, who was born 5 November 1915 at Seymour, Wayne County, Iowa.
There were six (6) children born of the marriage.
Obituary from The Hawk Eye, Oct. 2, 2007: Dorothy R. Dougherty, 90, of Keokuk, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at Keokuk Area Hospital. Born April 4, 1917 in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Silas S. and Lorena L. Kirkpatrick Heston. On Oct. 3, 1937, she married Robert E. Dougherty in Keokuk. He died in1996. Mrs. Dougherty graduated from Keokuk High School in 1934. She graduated from Southeastern Community College with the first practical nursing class. She was a member of First Christian Church in Keokuk, the Order of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine. She enjoyed knitting, reading and flowers. Survivors include one daughter, Lisa K. Bode of Keokuk; four sons, Robert E. "Bob" Dougherty of Apache Junction, Ariz., Michael L. Dougherty of Rochester Hills, Mich., Roger A. Dougherty of Fredericksburg, Va., and Douglas L. Dougherty of McGaheysville, Va.; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Loren Gene "Joe" Heston of Keokuk. She was preceded in death by one son, three brothers and one sister. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Dougherty will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Keokuk, with the Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Ill. A memorial has been established.
