Loren Gene Heston was born 3 January 1929 in Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa. He married 4 November 1948 to Ruth Burkland.

Loren Gene Heston, 84, of Keokuk, passed away November 1, 2013, at his home. He was born January 3, 1929, in Keokuk, the son of Silas Saxton and Laura Lorena Kirkpatrick Heston. He was united in marriage to Ruth Elinor Burkland on November 4, 1948, in First Christian Church, Roodhouse, Illinois, by his uncle, The Reverend W.W. Williams. He was a graduate of Keokuk Senior High School. Loren had been employed by the Hubinger Company/Heintz, for 34 years. Upon retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada. They spent several winters in Venice, Florida. Loren was an avid bowler and was proud of his many trophies he won both in Keokuk and in Tokyo, Japan, during the time he served his country in the U.S. Army Engineers in the Korean Conflict. He was stationed on the island of Eta Jima where he taught demolitions. Before entering the service he was projectionist for the Skylark Drive-in Theater until it closed. He then worked as projectionist for both the Grand Theater and the Iowa Theater. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, shooting pool and bowling with his son on the Xbox360. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his twin great-grandsons. He was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post #41 and the Local 48 American Federation of Grain Millers. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Elinor, a son Mark Eugene Heston and his wife Marie Ann of Keokuk. Additional survivors include a grandson Brandon Michael Heston, and twin great grandsons, Dayton Allen and Dakota James Heston. He is also survived by a nephew Bill Heston and his wife Jan of Manito, Illinois, and nieces Lisa Bode and her husband Darren of Keokuk, Linda Cady of Las Vegas, Nevada and Jan Stocks of Indio, California, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Robert Heston, Eber Heston, and Arthur Heston, and two sisters, Doris Heston and Dorothy Dougherty. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am Monday, November 4, 2013, at First Lutheran Church prior to the service at 11 am with Pastor Rodney Underwood officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in Keokuk National Cemetery following the church service.Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church.
