David Myron Kirkpatrick was born 16 March 1919, Des Moines, Iowa. He married 15 August 1940, Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, to Winifred Marie Burkle, daughter of Fred C. and Hattie (Loosenort) Burkle, who was born 19 January 1919, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

David was born on the 16th day of March, 1919, in Keokuk, Iowa, to parents, Charles and Anna Kirkpatrick. He was the youngest of three siblings which included brother, Charles, Jr. and sister, Leila (Whitmarsh). David was baptized into the Christian faith at the age of eight years in the Church of Christ tradition. He received his preparatory education in the Keokuk Public Schools and continued at Grand Rapids Junior College after moving to this area. With the outbreak of WWII, David served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in England and Germany. David's primary employment was as repair technician and credit manager with the RC Allen Typewriter Company, which frequently sent him around the country to teach typewriter repair. He officially retired from RC Allen in 1982, but continued to provide repair services for friends and family. On August 15, 1940, David and Winifred Burkle were united in holy marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, Winnie's home congregation. They met while both were working at carnival at Reed's Lake. Together, they became parents to Barbara, their only child. The Kirkpatrick's joined Faith Lutheran Church during the early years of development and became lifelong friends of Pastor Bob and Gerry Lignell. Throughout their life together, David and Winnie enjoyed traveling, having visited the Grand Canyon, the Smokey Mountains, Canada, and Kansas City, home of David's parents. David was also an avid reader, with a special interest in the Bible and theology. His growing expertise, combined with a gift for public proclamation brought him invitation to preach at area churches, including extended interims at Ascension and Prince of Peace Lutheran Churches. He also taught adult Sunday School and served on Faith's Congregation Council. David Kirkpatrick died on the 19th day of February, 2004, at the age of 84 years. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Winifred; their daughter, Barbara Kirkpatrick of Grand Rapids; four grandchildren, Betsy (Randy) Dunton of Casnovia, MI, David (Susan) Bushey of Lansing, Victoria Bushey and Stacey Bushey both of Milburn, OK; great granddaughter, Emily Dunton of Casnovia, MI; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 23, 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 2740 Fuller Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, MI with the Rev. Dennis Smith, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MI. The family will receive friends at the Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller NE, Grand Rapids, MI Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Those desiring may make contributions to Heartland Hospice, 500 Cascade West Parkway, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 or Faith Lutheran Church in memory of David. The family is being served by the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel, Lansing, MI. The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care to both David and his family. May God in his mercy receive his faithful servant, David Kirkpatrick into the arms of his everlasting care and bring comfort and hope to those who mourn him.
