Granville Lee Wayland

Grandville Lee Wayland, known as Lee, was born 18 November 1895 and died 16 January 1953. He is buried in Soldiers Circle in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison, Lee County, Iowa. He lived most of his life in Fort Madison, Iowa. He was married twice, first to Viola M. Gehle, whom he married on 14 November 1923, and second to Myrtle ______ Griffith, whom he married on 2 February 1928. His second wife, Myrtle, was born 21 May 1900 and died 8 March 1985. She had one daughter, Helen Lee Griffith, by her first marriage.

Lee was a World War I veteran, and later commander of the American Legion Post "82" in Fort Madison. He was employed by the State of Iowa as a mail inspector at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison from 1924 until his death in 1953. He was active in the Iowa Moose Association, and was vice-president at the time of his death.

There was one child born to the first marriage.

Granville Lee Wayland, 57, 617 1/2 Avenue E, died at 4 a.m. today in Sacred Heart hospital. He underwent an operation Tuesday. Born here Nov. 18, 1895, he was a lifelong resident. He was married to Myrtle A. Griffith on Feb. 2, 1928, at Carthage. He belonged to the First Christian church. H worked as a mail censor at the state prison. The deceased was first district president of the Loyal Order of Moore and also belonged to the Legion of Moose. He was a past commander of the local American Legion post, a member of the Forty and Eight, and a member of the Izaak Walton League. Survivors include his widow; one son, Robert, Roseville, Mich.; one daughter, Mrs. Stanley King, local; one sister, Mrs. Walter Siegrist, West Point RR; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Clements Chapel with the Rev. A. L. Bradbury officiating. Burial will be in Soldiers' Circle of Oakland cemetery. There will be military rites by the American Legion and the V. F. W.
