West Point---Viola Margaret Chapman, 80, West Point, died at 12:47 p.m. Monday, June 4, at the Fort Madison Community Hospital. death was unexpected. Mrs. Chapman was born April 29, 1904, in Hancock County, Ill. She had spent most of her life in the West Point area. She was a member of the West Point Presbyterian church and the Fort Madison Senior Citizens. On Nov. 10, 1928, at Monticello, Mo., she was married to Elmer Clyde Chapman who preceded her in death in 1968. Surviving are four sons, Robert Wayland, Grosse Point Wood, Mich., Elmo Chapman, West Point, Clifton Chapman, rural New London, and Richard Chapman, rural Donnellson; three daughters, Mrs. Harold (Margaret) Wilson, Burlington, Mrs. Tom (Shirley) Budke, Boulder, Colo., and Mrs. Robert (Deanna) Pealer, rural West Point; a brother, Chellis Gehle, Davenport; a sisters, Mrs. Charles (Zelda) Lock, Fort Madison; and 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Her parents were Edward and Eva J. McGahn Gehle. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the West Point Presbyterian church. The Rev. Kenneth Harden will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery, Fort Madison. The body is at the Barr Memorial Chapel, West Point, where friends may call after 10 Wednesday morning and where the family will meet friends from 7 to 8 Wednesday evening. A memorial is being established with the West Point Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel in West Point or at the church.
