Elmer Clyde Chapman, 83, West Point, died at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart hospital. Death terminated an extended illness. Mr. Chapman was born Feb. 28, 1905, at Wyaconda, Mo. He had lived in Lee county since 1916 and was an employee of the E. I. DuPont Co. plant here. On Nov. 10, 1928, at Monticello, Mo., he married Viola Gehle, who survives. He was a member of the West Point Presbyterian church. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Elmo Chapman, Clifton Chapman, and Richard Chapman, all of West point; a step son, Robert Wayland, Grosse Point Woods, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. Harold (Margaret) Wilson, Burling, Mrs. Tom (Shirley) Budke, Boulder, Colo., and Miss Deanna Chapman, West Point; two sisters, Miss Elsie Chapman and Miss Ruby Chapman, both of Fort Madison; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother and a sister. Funeral Saturday. The body is at Nieters Chapel where final rites will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Kenneth Harden will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. The family will meet friends at Nieters from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
