Flora Pauline Kirkpatrick

Flora Pauline Kirkpatrick was born 3 April 1907 in Imboden, Randolph County, Arkansas. Pauline married on 27 June 1928 or 27 May 1929 in Saint Louis, Missouri, to John Otho Crouch. Otho was born 2 May 1902 in Imboden, and died 19 July 1984 in Pocahontas, Randolph County, Arkansas. Otho was a brick mason and laid the brick for many of the brick homes in Pocahontas. Pauline worked as a telephone operator in Imboden.
After World War I, Otho served in the U.S. Navy. He received his basic training in Michigan as an amphibious aircraft mechanic and was then sent to Pensacola, Florida. He worked in the Signal Section for the Civil Service during World War II. Also during World War II, Pauline worked as an engine build-up mechanic on pilot trainer planes at the Walnut Ridge Air Base. After the base was closed, they transferred to Alliance, Nebraska, and then to Great Bend, Kansas. Later they moved back to Imboden, and finally to Pocahontas, where Pauline is still living (as of 1995).
There were seven (7) children born of the marriage.
Jonesboro Sun, Jonesboro, Arkansas, March 24, 2009: New Berlin, Illinois, Pauline Kirkpatrick Crouch, 101, of New Berlin, Ill., formerly of Pocahontas, died Friday, March 20, 2009, in Springfield, Ill. She was born April 3, 1907, at Imboden, the daughter of Riley and Alice Kirkpatrick. She married Otho Crouch on June 28, 1929, at St. Louis. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Crouch lived in Pocahontas for 59 years, working at the Walnut Ridge Air Base during World War II as an engine buildup mechanic. She also worked for several years in the Pocahontas school cafeteria and as a night telephone operator in Imboden. Survivors include four daughters, Dorothy Helms of Vacaville, Calif., Mona Childs of St. Louis, Patricia Phillips of Memphis and Sandra Collins of New Berlin, Ill.; two sons, Gerald Crouch of Conway and Michael Crouch of Sugarland, Texas; one sister, Martha Niehoff of Danville, Ind.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Kirkpatrick; sister, Mary Bender; and brother, Clark Kirkpatrick. Funeral services will be graveside at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hope Cemetery at Imboden under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service of Walnut Ridge.
