Clara Estelle Kirkpatrick

Clara was a professor of botany and zoology at Northwestern University in Evanston. Clara married on 12 Dec 1912 at Evanston, Cook Co., Illinois to Walter Edmund Hardy. Walter Edmund Hardy was an advertising executive in Chicago. He had a heart attack in the 30's or 40's and decided to retire early in South Texas. They retired to San Benito, Cameron Co., Texas in the 1940's, built their own house and lived a good long life. We have a photo, taken in 1929 of Clara's two daughters with her cousins, provided by the Hardy Family Genealogist, John Albert Spade. (Hardy Girls of 1929.pdf)

San Benito News, San Benito, Texas, Thursday, October 6, 1960, Page 3, Col. 8: Final Rites Held For Mrs. Hardy. Mrs. Clara Hardy, 77, died Monday at Mercy Hospital in Brownsville. She was born in Illinois and was the wife of the late Walter E. Hardy. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Griffin-Thomae Chapel with the Rev. Frank Walker conducting the services. Burial was in Mont Meta cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. John O'Bryan, Brownsville, and Mrs. Earl Taber, Harlingen. Pallbearers were Whit Plaisted, W. D. Colins, E. J. Bucklin, Ted Hudson, Elisha Daughtrey and Chauncey Milner.
