From Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home, North Vernon, Indiana: Lewis Amis, 75, of North Vernon died at 2:56 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2006, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon. Mr. Amis was employed at Muscatatuck State Developmental Center for 15 years, working on the lawn crew, as a carpenter and in the kitchen. A U.S. Army retiree, he served from 1949 to 1972, including two years in the U.S. Air Force. He attended Paris Crossing High School, was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Matt Hester Post 2021 and a former member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time on the riverboats. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard L. Burcham officiating. Calling is from 9 a.m. until time of the service. Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the donor's choice of charities. Born November 11, 1930, in Buckhorn, Kentucky, Mr. Amis was the son of Oscar and Ida Deaton Amis. Surviving is his companion, Rita Tuck of Scipio; daughters, Debra Eberts of North Vernon and Donna Williams of Rock Island, Illinois; a brother, Billy Roy Amis of Boonville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Melanie Vance of Rock Island, Keith Williams of Guam, and Jennifer Schuck and Julie Ramey, both of North Vernon; and great-grandchildren, Adalee Williams of Guam and Ryan and Caitlyn Schuck, both of North Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ora, Ralph Jr., and Bob T. Amis; and sisters, Virgie Johnson and Geneva Amis.
