The Prospect-News, Doniphan, Missouri, August 10, 1939, Front Page, Col. 2: T. W. Jackson, Well Known Citizen, Dies. Was 678 Years Old---Came Here From Arkansas About 22 Years Ago. T. W. Jackson, a well known citizen of Ripley county, fell dead of heart failure in the doorway at the home of his son-in-law, W. R. Ponder, 3 1/2 miles east of Doniphan, about 5:30 o'clock Wednesday evening of last week. He and his wife and daughter, Stella Mae, had spent the winter at Baton Rouge, La., with his son, W. D., and returned to this county only a few weeks ago. Although he had been bothered somewhat with heart trouble, the end came as shock to everyone. Mr. Jackson was 68 years old, and had been a devoted member of the Baptist church for the past 14 years. Funeral services were held at the Amity Baptist church Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Sheppard, pastor, with special song service by a male quartet from the Doniphan Church of God. Burial was in the Amity cemetery, with Black funeral service. He leaves to mourn his loss, his widow and ten children as follows: Sheridan and Mrs. Charley Walker of West Plains; Mrs. Charley Shoemate of Pikesville, Tenn.; Walter of Baton Rouge, La.; Lacey of Dexter, Mich.; Mrs. Earl McGee of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Jack Penrod of Jackson, Mich.; Mrs. George Ormsby, Mrs. W. R. Ponder and Miss Stella Mae of this county; also a step-son, Philip Kirkpatrick, of Bennett; 20 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Jackson and his family moved to this county from McRae, Ark., in 1917, and during all these years as a citizen here, he has always been found honest and upright, working in the interest of better schools, churches and other things for the betterment of the community. Being a farmer he was interested in Farm Extension work, having served a number of years as a member of the Farm Bureau Board; also served several years as a member of the school board of his district, always boosting for good schools for the benefit of not only his but his neighbor's children. He was a devoted husband and father in the home, a true and faithful member in the church, and his service and presence will be greatly missed in those various places, but the results of his faithful, energetic work and noble deeds will linger long in the hearts and memory of all those who knew him.
