Truman S. Carter

Daily American Republic, Poplar Bluff, Missouri, March 26, 1974, Page 9, Col. 4 & 5: The Rev. Truman Carter,67, a retired General Baptist minister and a resident of 1940 Nooney Street, died Monday at his home after a long illness. A retired Frisco Railroad employe, Mr. Carter was born on Feb. 26, 1907, in Rombauer. He had been employed for several years as a deputy sheriff and dispatcher for the Butler County Sheriff's department. Mr. Carter had served as pastor of the New Oak Hill General Baptist Church for seven years. On August 6, 1941, he married Lydia Palmer in Doniphan. Survivors include his wife, a sister, Mrs. Allen Manning of Miami, Fla., a niece, Mrs. Neil Phillips, Miami, and a step-nephew, George Manning, Miami. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the New Oak Hill General Baptist Church. The Rev. James Schremp will conduct the services and burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the Bruce-Fitch Funeral Home.
