Louis Dixie Stevens Sr.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Lubbock, Texas, Monday, December 13, 1972, Page A-13, Col. 4: Tuesday. L. D. Stevens Rites Slated. Louis D. Stevens, 70, of 2516 54th St., a prominent Lubbock businessman, died at 8 p.m. Sunday in a West Texas hospital after a long illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the W. W. Rix Chapel with Dr. Paul M. Bumpers, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Entombment will be in Resthaven Mausoleum.

Stevens was a past president of the Lubbock Cotton Exchange. He was a cotton buyer before his retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Amarillo's Khiva Shrine Temple.

His father the lat W. O. Stevens settled at what is now Post with C. W. Post in 1907. W. O. Stevens was one of the founders of Post and later was president of Citizens National Bank in Lubbock.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche; four sons, Jerry of Plainview, Mike of Lubbock, Tom of Houston and L. D. Jr., of San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Dixie Billings of Vermont; and a brother, W. O. Stevens of Dallas.

The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of donations to the Salvation Army, West Texas Lighthouse for the Blind, the Goodfellows and the Guide Dog Foundation of San Rafael, Calif.

Pallbearers will be Conway Clingan, Earl Collins, Tom Ingram, Watson Carlock. J. D. McPhaul, Alfred Wadlington, Wayne Henly and Ed Merriman. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lubbock Cotton Exchange.
