Serbella "Belle" A. Rutkowski, 90, of Marshfield, died Saturday, July 1, 2006 at the House of The Dove Hospice Home under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Rembs/Kindinger Funeral Home with the Rev. Sue Eidahl officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Auburndale with her relatives serving as the pallbearers. Visitations will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Serbella was born Dec. 24, 1915, in the town of Green Valley, Marathon County, to William and Daisy (Babcock) Brandt. She was united in marriage to Joseph Rutkowski in December 1948. Serbella served in the United States Coast Guard, SPARS, during Work War II. She attended Bradley College, Texas College for Women and San Diego State University, where she was a doctoral candidate. For more than 30 years she taught special education in the San Diego School District. She was an active volunteer serving as past president, secretary and treasurer for the Association of Retarded Citizens and was also involved with the Ladies Auxiliary for Retarded Citizens, LARCS. She is survived by two daughters, Lilyan (Jack) Simmons of Vail, Ariz., and Rose (Martin) Cohen of Chappaqua, N.Y; and one son, Joseph Rutkowski of San Diego; two grandchildren, Kayla and Hannah Cohen. She is further survived by her brother, Kenneth Brandt of Mosinee; many nieces and nephews; and close friends Dolores Simmons and Mary Rasmussen.
