Avery, 81, Carl Junction, died at 7:45 a.m. Monday at a Joplin nursing home following a long illness. Mrs. Avery was born Oct. 8, 1894, at Fort Scott, Kan. She was married to Charles Avery, who died in 1935. She was a longtime resident of Liberal before moving to Carl Junction. She was a member of Pleasantview Baptist Church, south of Liberal. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Ralph Overstreet, Liberal route 1, Mrs. Bertha Wyrick, Pittsburg, Kan., and Mrs. Eula Sheppard, Joliet, Ill. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasantview Baptist Church. The Rev. David Wigger will officiate. Burial will be in Nashville Cemetery, south of Liberal, under direction of Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home, Lamar.
