Joplin Globe, Joplin, Missouri, Sunday, April 27, 1958, Page 39, Col. 3: Lamar, Mo.---Mrs. Ella Briggs, Liberal, Mo., route 1 died at 9:35 a.m. Saturday at her home. She was 89 years old. Mrs. Briggs came to this area with her parents, who were early settlers in Barton county in the Duval community in 1880. She has lived on the family farm most of her life. Her husband, A. L. Briggs, preceded her in death in 1939. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Eula Shepherd of Plainfield, Ill., Mrs. Gertrude McClure of Frontenac, Kan., Mrs. Bertha Wyrick of Pittsburg, Kan., Mrs. Able Avery of the home, Mrs. Leona Lane of Mindenmines, Mo., and Mrs. Cleona Overstreet of Liberal, Mo. Also surviving is one brother, J. K. Simmons of Long Beach, Calif., 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Pleasant View Baptist church, the Rev. C. J. Askins officiating. Burial will be in the Nashville cemetery under direction of the Chiles funeral home of Lamar.
