He saw service in the Spanish American War in the Philipines, the Philipine Insurrection, The Boxer Rebellion in China, and World War I, where he was stationed in France, being there at the time of Woodrow Wilson's visit there. Afterwards he served at various stations in this country. Captain Beck made his home in Ft. Worth, Texas after his retirement. He married Cora Lee Tompkins of Princeton, Texas. She was the daughter of Robert D. Tompkins of Virginia, and Mary O'Brian of Celina, Texas.

He was at our house in his uniform when he left and I will never forget the admiration I had for him. That was the last time I ever saw him but all through the years when I thought of the United States Army, I thought of Willie Beck.
