Obituary of unknown newspaper from the Grant County Wisconsin Genealogical Society. Mrs. Viola "Pet" Hill was the daughter of Fred and Dolly Kirkpatrick. She was born January 12, 1872 in the Town of Lima, near the Village of Washburn, now Arthur. Her early life was spent at the parental farm home, and she received her early education at the Greenwood District School. She also attended the Platteville Normal School for one year. Mrs. Hill was united in marriage with William C. Hill in March 1894, at the Fred Kirkpatrick home in the Town of Lima. Their first home was established near Rewey on a farm where they resided until 1907 when they moved to their home on Water street in the City of Platteville. In the year 1913 the family moved to the West Hill farm where Mrs. Hill resided until 1942 when she moved to her late home on West Main St. in the city. There came to bless this union five children: Florence, Charles, Fred, Jane and Ruth. Mrs. Hill began to fail in health shortly before Christmas last year. She received treatment at Platteville and Madison hospital. Leaving the hospital on March 7th she went to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Waters, at Park Ridge, Ill., where she was tenderly cared for until her condition required that she return to the hospital. Despite all that loving hands and medical skill could do, she went peacefully Home at the St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, on April 5, 1951. Mrs. Hill is survived by her son Charles of Madison, her daughter Jane (Mrs. Howard C. Neill) of Glendale, Calif., her daughter Ruth (Mrs. Dean Waters) of Park Ridge, Ill., her sister Mrs. Lloyd Rundell of Platteville, nine grandchildren, other relatives, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. C. Hill, who passed away in January 1942 [1932]; her daughter Florence, Mrs. Curtis Callow, April 1926; and her son Fred Kirk Hill, in January 1937. Mrs. Hill was a devoted and loyal Christian and lifelong member of the Methodist church, her membership being in the Methodist Chruch for many ears. She was a active member of the Women's society of Christian Service and a supporter of many other organizations, particularly the American Red Cross. She was active in relief work in World War I and World War II. Mrs. Hill was a devoted wife and loving mother. She manifested the spirit of our pioneers in her unselfish and kindly service ;in her community in which she resided, always ready and willing lend a helping hand to those in sickness or distress. Her home was one of loveliness and devotion to those near and dear to her and it can truly be said, "None knew her but to love her, or named her but to praise." Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, April 8, 1951, from Thoas Funeral Home to the First Methodist Church, of Platteville. Rev. Eustice Kirkpatrick [officiating].
