Mount Pleasant News, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Tuesday, May 4, 1971, Page 6, Col. 7: Roy C. Payne, 82, died Monday May 3, about 10:00 p.m. at the Henry County Memorial hospital. He was born June 22, 1888 in Henry county, the son of John D. and Florence Payne. Mr. Payne was a life-long resident of Henry county and member of the Finley United Methodist Chapel. He was married to Nellie V. Miller who preceded him in death on Dec. 13, 1970. Surviving is one son, John Payne of Phoenix, Ariz., five daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Earnest of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Stanley (Mildred) Johnson of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Erma Marshall of Des Moines, Mrs. T. E. (Geraldine) Johnson of St. Joseph, Mo. and Mrs. Robert (Rosalie) Gregg of La Crescenta, Calif. 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Meeker of Washington, Mrs. Ralph Canby of Mt. Union and Mrs. Earl Canby of Arizona. One daughter and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 6, at 10:00 a.m. at the Crane-Ewart-Young funeral home. Rev. Carl Wilson, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Finley cemetery. Friends may call at the Crane-Ewart-Young funeral home as they desire.
