He was educated at Mechanicsburg, Ind., and was in the Greensburg High School graduating class of 1929. He was a member of the Purdue University Mechanical Engineering class of 1933. For 37 years he was an engineer at Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Motors Corp., retired in 1976. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Schlonga Kirkpatrick; three sons, Robert, Melvin and David Kirkpatrick and a brother, Charles Kirkpatrick. Private services were in Indianapolis.
