(2 Jun 1867 - 17 Jul 1965)
Richterswil 28 June 1907 Dear Sister faraway!
With much joy, I received your letter today. I don't really know the reason why we waited so long to write, finally, I decided it was because you had a new address.
Dear sister, a lot has happened here and I would rather tell it to you than write. Our dear Mother had to suffer long and hard. At first I had her with me and would like to have taken care of her till the end but her mind went also and it took two people to watch her. So we had to take her to Munsterlingers county for care. She was there a year and a half. My husband and I visited her. I was there in October and on 24th of December, 1902 she was released from all her suffering. God showed mercy to her.
Our dear Mother really suffered a lot. She was 67 years old. Father is partly to blame for her unfortunate end. he is now in the poor house. So you see dear sister, I have had a lot to bear too. This spring I was in the hospital for 9 weeks because of my legs. I thought it would get real serious, but God helped me. I have a lot of pain and I was to go to a bath and take treatments but I didn't know whether they could really help me. The doctor said i have a chronic skin infection.
It has been 3 years since my husband was transferred to Richterswil he is a worker here. We had 4 children: Anna 14 years, Maria 12 years, Bubbi 5 years and Karli 4 years. Thank God the children are well.
We were at sister Maria's four weeks. She said she wrote to you. She stayed with me 10 days while I was ill.
Amali is at the Zurich Sea, but we hear little from from him. He works in a factory. We are in a new house, it has 5 rooms and a garden. Three weeks ago we had bad weather that did a lot of damage. It was almost July and we had not yet had summer weather, always cold and rain.
Our children would like to see you. Children, they bring us much joy and work. The two boys are growing up and are their father's life.
Many heart felt greetings from your ever loving sister and family.
Elisa Muller.
Richterswil 17 March 1913
Dear Anna and family, ...I am sending you a picture of our boys, they are one and a half years apart. The oldest is 12 and is named Jakob, and the younger one is Karl. Our Anna will be 20 this summer. She is 1/2 head taller than I and is a Ladies Dressmaker. Maria is 18 years old and works in a store. Both girls were gond a year to learn French. Much has changed since you left.
....Five weeks ago I was at sister Maria's. They are in Stein-Sirkingeu and they are all well. She has one boy left that has his last year in school. The others have all left home. My daughter has learned to be lazy. She wants to get married this summer. They are going to be living here. It's nice when the children don't move so far away.
I don't know much of brother Karl. He and his wife are still in Basel and both work. Karl has been sick a lot. They don't have any children.
Amali is also married, I don't know anything about that and father is in an Old Folks home. He is well and has a good place there. Now you know about everything about us.
I am at peacde. I would never have thought that I would bring him to a home, but we don't want to look back, only forward. ... Your loving sister, Elisa and family
Richterswil 3 June 1928 Dear Sister:
... My husband had an accident on the railroad, but was lucky it was not worse. He had to stay in bed for 3 months. He doesn't work on the railroad anymore but is laid off.
We are alone now. 3 are married. They live not far away, you would have room with us. We have a 5 room aprtment on the Zurich Sea.
It is hot weather now but the spring was beautiful. Our cherries are ripe now and there are many apples.
We are all getting old. I am 62, I have pain in my bones but if we can get aroundwe will be satisfied.
Dear sister, do you have an open sore on your leg??? or nerves?? I wish you many more sunny days with all my heart.
I can't write very good anymore. I hope you can read it. The Aunt from Lauzern? is still alive.
Many greetings and kisses to you.
Your sister, Elisa (The rest of the letter is too light to read.)

Dear Neice Eliza,
Your letter of 17 of March 1950 ...
My husband is 83 and I am 82 1/2 years old. I will write in short of my family. I have two sons and two daughters. They are all married and have their children. So I have 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. i can't tell you anymore than that.
Aunt Amalie died 4 years ao, so I am the only one of my brothers and sisters that are still living, all have died. I also am sick and can't work any longer. Also my eyes are bad. You see, I also am tired of life and have to wait with patience.
Receive the heartest of greatings and everything good for you wishes your Aunt.

It is now April and there is fresh snow again and it is so cold. We hope it will soon get better. The Zurich Lake is frozen over and one could go clear to Zurich on ice, by auto and sleigh. We have never had anything like it. We have been in Richterswil for 25 years.letter dated Mar 16, 1936 .... We have been in Richterswil for 30 years now. Maria is also still in Richterswil....

Biel records show her as Maria Elise - very easy to read. Uesslingen records show her as Anna Elise - very easy to read. Her sister Maria says that she herself was born in 1867 so I have changed Elise's name to reflect the Uesslingen record. In letters dated 4 Dec 1940 it shows Jakob stated Elise will be 74 in June 1867. Letter dated 3 June 1928 that Elise says she is was born about June 1866. Letter dated 15 Apr 1950 that Elise is born about Sept 1867.Endnotes
