Sachingen 6 May 1913 Dear Sister and Sister-in-law
After long years we have finally received a sign of life from you. Which made us very happy especially that everything is well with you. We are well too and have work and an income so we can make it.
We are soon alone again, Maria and I because our chidlren are almost all of them gone all but the youngest. The oldest is in Mannheim a printer. Walter is a painter in Luzern, Werner is a carpenter. Maria will be married in two months. Arnold, the youngest, works with me at the factory.
We occasionally visit our relatives and friends in Streugelbach. You probably already know that my parents died and also Bulilers. Your father is still living and is in Ratheimeustdal, Thurgau. Karl is in Basel and does well there, but he has asthma. Sometimes he has to miss work and stay home. Our Amalie we only know that she is married to a Salvation Army soldier and lives in Kanton, Zurich. We can't say exactly becauseshe never writes. The Muller's and us are the closest here in Richterswil. Mullers do well if it wasn't for Elise's leg giving her so much trouble, especially when it's bad weather. Then she has so much pain that she can hardly walk.
In Zasingen and Langeburg, so much has changed so that you would not be able to find your way. The factory burned and a new one has been built. But Dock Kase Ziger (cheese), you can still get in Switzerland.

With thanks we received your letter telling us that our dear sister, Anna, died 15 May 1944. We wish her eternal peace. Sister Maria (this Maria) is now 82 years. Elisa lived with Amalie and is now in a rest home. Brother Karl has been dead about 20 years. He was 60 years old.
Since we were all separated since we were little children, you can see it is hard to find them in the Register (records)
I'm sorry I can't give you better information at my age. .. We have 2 sons and 2 daughters. All are married and they are all well.

This is a real puzzle. In the records that were sent back to their hometown of Uesslingen, it is recorded that the child born on this date is Anna Elise. Dates match exactly in Biel and Uesslingen. Just the name of the child differs. However, the child called Elise throughout her life marries Jacob Müller, and the child called Maria throughout her life marries Jacob Hunziker.
