Catharine Elizabeth SCHREMLING
(1718 - 1798)
[young.FTW]
In about 1742, in the Dutch Reformed Church of Stone Arabia, Adam Young married Catherine Elizabeth Schmerling (born circa 1720, Schmerling's Kill, Canajoharie Creek, Mohawk Valley, Province of New York - ), daughter of Hendrick Schmerling who owned a large tract of land at the Schmerling's Kill on the Canajoharie Creek.
Catherine Elizabeth (Schmerling) Young, was jailed at Tice's Tavern in Johnstown, where she escaped from to joined her daughter-in-law Catherine and her grandchildren
It is apparent the the wife of Adam Young remained behind when her husban and sons joined the British, for it is recorded in several documents one being "The war out of Niagara" that a Mrs Young, Mrs Secord and Mrs Bowman did arive in 1778 at Fort Niagara with other Loyalist wives(her daughters-in-law) and 31 children in a starving condition. It is also noted that they were driven away from their homes in NY by the circumstances of the rebellion.
Her husban Adam at this time was 61 years of age, which would make her about the same or just a year or so younger.
After Adams death in 1790 Catherine Elizabeth lived in the household of her son Daniel, apparently on the Grand River lands. She was blind for some years before her own death. FIELD NAME Page FIELD NAME Page FIELD NAME Page
