!John was listed in father's will as Jan. He first married Elizabeth Tyson, whose widower he was when in 1692, he was betrothed to Geertrutje Jans of Kingston (Kingston Church records). Illicit discoveries however caused him to break this engagement and he later married Petroneltje somebody. (Swaim) Note: see Clute.

!He was the Sheriff of Richmond County.

!James Canfield submitted him for baptism and was proxy.

He was betrothed to a Geertrudje Jansz of Kingston in 1692; according to the records, he was shown as being the widower of Elizabeth Tyson in that year (Kingston Church Records). However, this second marriage never came about because of illiect discoveries made by John and he called off the engagement and eventually married Peternal Swaim, daughter of the "Unknown Son", son of Barent. In effect, John Depuy married the "great niece of his first wife Elizabeth. John Depuy, listed as age 24 on the 1706 census is the son of Elizabeth, whether he was the only child of the marriage or the only one to have surrvived childhood we cannot say, but there is no doubt of his being the son of Elizabeth. (Swaim page 48)
