Bertha Ura Cave, was born March 15, 1891, in Wood County, TX,
near Quitman. Her parents were Robert Bruce and Martha Elizabeth (Logan)Cave.
She married Earl Vanransler Carroll in Sulpher Springs, TX.
To this union were born four children:

Ruby May Carroll
Velma Lee Carroll
Olga Jane Carroll
Her husband died at an early age, and she later re-married
to Charles Joyner, who took her and her children to Iowa,
and they resided on a farm near Manly.

Bertha died at her home in Mason City, IA, April 1, 1939, following an illness. Funeral services were conducted at the MaCauley and Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. J. Lee Lewis of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Harmon M. Carroll, Manly, IA,
and Charles L. Joyner, Mason city, IA; four daughters,
Mrs. Charles (Ruby May) Krienke, Manly, Mrs. Bert (Velma Lee) Stiles, Mason City, Mrs. Jack (Olga Jane) Schaffer,
Mason City, and Imogene Joyner, Mason City; one sister,
Mrs. Carl (Nora L Cave) Alston, Sweetwater, TX; and four grandchildren, Bernard Carroll, Manly, Betty Jean Carroll,
Manly, Patricia Hall, Mason City, and Joyce Stiles, Mason City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers,
Roye B. and Ellery; and one sister, Mary A.
Mrs. Joyner was a member of the First Baptist Church, Mason City, IA.
