Earl Van Rensselear was born Aug. 7, 1880, at Hazel Green, MO, the son of Jane Elizabeth Wilder, daughter of Dr. Benjamin Hyde and Mary Augusta (Wright)Wilder.
When his mother married Jeremiah Martin "Jerry" Carroll, Earl
was either adopted by him, or assumed his name.
Earl had one leg that was paralyzed.
He married Bertha Ura Cave, March 30, 1908, at Sulphur Springs, TX. She was the daughter of Robert Bruce and Martha Elizabeth (Logan) Cave(s).
To this union were born four children:
