The unexpected death of Warren R Bailey, at the home of his sister Mrs Ester Gregory, in Juniata, last Wednesday afternoon, was quite a sick to his many home friends in the western end of Centre county. Mr Bailey had not been in good health for some time but was no worse than usual. On Tuesday he got a bad fall which caused complications resulting in his death.
Warren Richard Bailey was a son of John and Mary Goheen Bailey and was on at Baileyville on July 4th, 1854, hence was in his 76th year. His boyhood days were spent on the home farm and in attending the public school and Pine Grove Academy, but when he reached the age of twenty-three years he married Miss Catherine Steely, of Lewistown, and shortly thereafter they went to Illinois and located in Springfield. Mr Bailey became a traveling salesman and became quite successful. Later he established a real estate and insurance office in Springfield and a good business. During the years he lived in Illinois he made a number of trips back to Centre County.
Ms Bailey died in 1924, and having no children Mr Bailey disposed of his business two years later and returned to Centre county, making his home with his nephew, John H Bailey, at Pine Grove Mills. Early in the fall he went to Juniata to spend the winter with his sister, Mrs Gregory. He was a ruling elder in the Presbyterian church and a teacher in the Sunday School. He was also president of the Ferguson township Brotherhood. In politic he was a Republican but liberal in his views.
He was one of a family of eight brothers and was the last to go, but is survived by two sisters, Mr John Hewitt, of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs Gregory, of Junitata.
The remains were taken to Pine Grove Mills were funeral services were held at 10 o'clock on Saturday morning, at the John H Bailey home. Burial was made in the new cemetery at Pine Grove Mills, six nephews of the deceased acting as pallbearers.
Probate
First: Feeling that it would be only equitable and just that such of my relatives (either sister, sister-in-law, nephew or niece) shall give to me their personal care and attention during my last illness, should receive what estate I may have, and inasmuch as I cannot tell at this time who it will be I make the following provision:I give and bequeath to my nephew John H Bailey, all of my estate of every kind and character in trust for the following towit:
(a) He shall out of said estate, pay all my just debts and funeral expenses.
(b) He shall have a suitable marker placed over my grave, if I do not do so in my life time.
(c) All of the balance of my estate he shall give to such of my said relatives as shall have performed the services above named, - not intending this inany sense a compensation for what I know they would all gladly do, but only as an expression of the appreciation which I feel, and having every confidence in the judgment, fairness and impartiality of my said nephew, I leave the selection f such person or persons and the portion which each shall receive entirely to him.
