Eighteen miles south of Reading is Churchtown a colonial Welsh settlement. Pew # 20 Purchased by John Koheen [Goheen] in 1750 and petitioned for a Bible in 1748. List in 1871 shows the pew still in his name. Samuel Goheen appears as holder of pew # 20 from 1793 until 1796. Lane Goheen in 1799 and 1800, and Samuel and Edward Goheen held it in 1803. The Petition of Christian Dale of Ferguson Township in said County, most Respectfully Sheweth;
That your Petitioners did present a petition to your Honorable Court at last January Session, Praying for a Road from his Mills on Spring Creek, to Intersect the Pittsburgh Road near General John Pattons residence.
That an order Issued for a View of said read, and the Gentleman named did not all attend on the Ground and lay out the Road, as in the Specified
Your Petitioner therefore Prays your Honorable Court to Appoint or order the same, or Six other Persons to Review the Ground, and lay out a Road on the best direction from his said Mills on Spring Creek, to the Pittsburgh Road as Prayed for in his former Petition; And your Petitioners as in duty bound Shall we Pray.

We the subscribers appointed by the Court at Bellefont at November Sessions last part to review a Road laid out from Dales Mill to John Goheens on the Pittsburg Road having all met on the ground and after having carefully examined said read and the ground it was laid on as well as the adjacent reads and the courses of the same Do Report that no part of said read is necessary further on that course than the laid out read from the Blue Spring to Centre Furnace from Dales Mill after which we allow to be a private Road.

At the time of John's death they had a "bound" girl named Jane Smith, helping the family who was between 16 and 26. This girl probably to help the daughter Mary who appeared to need help, (In the will of John was instructions for help for Mary)
This seemed to be the custom to have help for the Goheen family in later generations.

In the name of God Amen. I John Goheen of Ferguson township, Centre County, and being sick and infirm of body but of sound mind and memory, praised to Almighty God, and not knowing how soon may please my creator to remove me from this transitory worst do recommend (this) should to its merciful Creator and y body to earth to be buried at the discretion of my Executors herein after named. And repeating what worldly good I may died ... of I do dispose of them as follows. (in the first place declaring this my last Will and Testament, and hereby revoking all former Wills that may have been made by me.) I give and bequeath to my son Joseph Goheen the lot and buildings where he now lives with the plantation, where on I now live to him and his heirs for ever. Subject to the following reservations Viz: My Son John Goheen is to be paid fifty dollars within three months after my decease and the like sum annually during his life, and at his decease the sum of two thousand dollars to be paid to his nearest heir or heirs. It is also my will that my daughter Mary Goheen who is, by visitation of God unable to take care of herself by clothed, fed and taken proper care out of said plantation during her life ten dollars to be paid her in Cash within three months after my decease. I also five and bequeath to my son Joseph Goheen all my personal property and all the debts due by me, subject to the said Jane Smith legacy and to the payment of every just debt due by me. It is also my earnest request that my son Joseph aforesaid and John Bailey my neighbor in whom I have full confidence by Executors to this my last Will and Testament. Know all men by thee presents that I John Bailey being appointed one of the Executors in the last Will and Testament of John Goheen deceased do hereby resign the said appointment, and do for myself my executors and administrators renounce all my claim to the administration of the said estate and desire that the same may be committed to any person or persons legally entitled thereto Witness my hand and seal the 26th day of April AD 1815
Burial
Small Cemetery on Goheen Farm is presently located on Penn State University land North of Rock Spring just East of resivor into the woods about 20 feet. Area is surrounded by rocks and is evident that it is a grave site. The grave markers along with his wife and other family members are brown stones and has no noticeable inscription. Evident that at least three and maybe four graves at the site. Their are four upright stones which are surrounded by a wall of stones. A tree has grown up within the walled area.Endnotes
