(1826 - 10 Oct 1889)

Ephraim Thorne was a relatively prosperous farmer in 1861. His farm was valued at 2800.00 and consisted of seventy acres of improved land and eighty acres of unimproved land. His equipment was valued at $150.00 and in stock he had 4 horses, 10 milk cows, 9 neat cattle, 14 sheep and 8 pigs. In the previous year he had slaughtered 1300 lbs of pork and produced 640 lbs of butter. He also produced 30 lbs of wool, 20 tons hay from 30 acres under cultivation, 100 bushels of oats from 6 acres cultivated; 30 bushels of buckwheat from 2 acres; and 30 bushels of rye wheat from 1 1/2 acres planted. In 1/4 acre Ephraim had a yield of 100 bushels of turnips, from 2 acres he obtained 300 bushels of potatoes and the family wove cloth for a cash value of $25. 00. Charles A.
