ABEL COREY

(22 May 1841 - )

In 1861 he was living in New Canaan, his occupation given as "labourer." Stanley Corey has this information: "They later moved to Carleton County, according to Noble Corey. In 1871 Mary Corey was living in Southampton Parish, York County, and a note in the census record stated that she had left her husband. She had one child with her, John E. Corey. That same year, 1871, two of the children of Abel and Mary Corey were being cared for in the family of Edward Trayer of Waterborough Parish, Queen's County. These were Margaret, aged 10 (she should have been 12 according to the 1861 census), and William M. Corey, aged 7. Abel and Mary were said to have had a large family, but record has been found of only three. Abel may have been the Abel Corey of Bright Parish whose holograph will was dated 14 Jun 1909. According to this probate record, he left one surviving son under 31, George Corey of Macnaquac NB." Stanley later added, "to this can be added the fact tat according to a deed, Abel Corey and his wife Sophronia were living in Bright Parish in 1907." [Corey Book]
